Garland UK Cuts Emissions by 12% in Third Annual Sustainability Report

Report reaffirms Scope 1 and 2 carbon neutral status, expanded EPD coverage and a first employee wellbeing survey

Garland UK, the 100% employee-owned roofing and building envelope systems supplier, has published its third annual Sustainability Report, revealing a 12% reduction in total emissions against its 2023 baseline.

Garland UK’s carbon neutral status across Scope 1 and 2 emissions, was achieved in 2025 by offsetting 60 tonnes of carbon through the Solar Lighting for Families in Zambia project, certified by Gold Standard.

Total emissions fell to 287,064 tCO2e in 2025, down 4% year on year and 12% below baseline. Scope 1 emissions are down 18% against baseline, while Scope 3 emissions, which account for 99% of Garland UK’s footprint, fell by 12%. Business travel and inbound freight showed particularly strong improvement, down 37% and 46% respectively on 2024.

The report also reaffirms Garland UK’s carbon neutral status across Scope 1 and 2 emissions, achieved in 2025 by offsetting 60 tonnes of carbon through the Solar Lighting for Families in Zambia project, certified by Gold Standard. For customers, the status is backed by the company’s Carbon Reduction Plan, published in line with the UK Government’s Procurement Policy Note 06/21, giving public and private sector clients a clear, compliant view of how Garland UK manages emissions across all three scopes.

Carbon Neutrality at Garland UK

Mark Fisher, General Manager at Garland UK, said, “In 2025, Garland UK achieved carbon neutrality across Scope 1 and 2 emissions, a goal we set out to reach and have now delivered through real, verified action. It is a moment that reflects years of disciplined data collection, supplier engagement and operational change, and it sets a new benchmark for what our industry should expect of itself.”

Garland UK was candid about areas where performance moved in the wrong direction. Outbound freight rose 9% against baseline and now accounts for 67% of the company’s total footprint, while Scope 2 emissions increased 61% due to higher electricity consumption, a rise the company says it is now investigating. Total waste also rose 53% in 2024 following three planned warehouse clear-outs, although Garland UK maintained zero waste to landfill throughout the year.

Supporting more transparent specification, Garland UK extended Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) coverage, giving specifiers independently verified data on carbon and resource impacts across its roofing, rainscreen and solar ranges.

Ben Whitemore, Head of Technical at Garland UK, said, “Reaching EPD coverage across 17 of our 18 systems means our customers no longer have to take our word for a product’s environmental performance, they can see it, verified and independently assessed. That transparency is what we believe specifiers should expect as standard, not as an exception.”
