National construction charity Band of Builders (BoB) is celebrating after surpassing the £2 million mark for the value of projects it has delivered since it was founded in 2016.

Known for delivering home adaptation and renovation projects by mobilising the construction industry to support its own, BoB completed two projects in May which took the total value of volunteer-delivered work beyond the £2 million mark.

To date, BoB has completed 51 projects, ranging from essential home repairs and adaptations to large-scale renovations that enable beneficiaries and their families to live more safely, comfortably and independently.

Each BoB project typically involves around 25 volunteers, with the largest project yet involving 86 construction workers on site. Projects range from one to 31 days in duration, with an average completion time of nine days, while the average delivered value of a project, including labour and materials, exceeds £40,000.

Project Delivery Milestone

The two most recent projects were delivered back-to-back in Ipswich and Burnley as the charity celebrated its 10th anniversary.

The 50th BoB project supported Jay, an amputee builder who was forced to abandon an extension project he had started himself after being diagnosed with spinal cancer.

Meanwhile, the 51st project was completed for Keren, the mother of tradeswoman Vicky. Vicky had been partway through renovating her home when she was forced to stop work and become Keren’s full-time carer following her Alzheimer’s diagnosis. Thanks to the completed renovation, Keren can now move in with Vicky and her children while maintaining her independence.

Gavin Crane, CEO of Band of Builders, said: “Surpassing £2 million in delivered project value is an incredible milestone for Band of Builders and something that every volunteer, supporter and partner should feel immensely proud of.

“Every pound of that £2 million figure represents something tangible – a safer home, greater independence, improved dignity and, in many cases, a brighter future for construction families facing incredibly difficult circumstances.

“Projects like those recently completed for Jay and Keren show exactly why Band of Builders exists. When illness, injury or hardship prevents someone from completing essential work on their home, our volunteers and partners step forward to help.”

Adding to the celebrations, adhesive and sealant manufacturer CT1 has reaffirmed its commitment to the charity by extending its sponsorship as a key Strategic Partner.

The charity says its ability to deliver projects of this scale relies heavily on the support of industry partners such as CT1.

A long-standing supporter of BoB, CT1’s continued partnership will help the charity expand its practical project delivery programme while also growing its wellbeing and financial support services.

Reflecting on the renewed partnership, Gavin added: “We simply could not achieve any of this without the support of businesses like CT1. Their continued commitment as a Strategic Partner plays a hugely important role in helping us deliver life-changing projects safely, professionally and at speed.

“CT1 understands what Band of Builders is all about – the construction industry coming together to support its own – and we are extremely grateful for their ongoing backing as we continue to grow.”
