Contractor Launches Industry-First Charity Hoarding Initiative

A building envelope specialist is challenging the traditional role of site hoarding after donating a section of its latest construction project to Young Lives vs Cancer, creating what is believed to be the UK’s first large-scale charity promotional space on a live construction site.

As a principal contractor in the façade and roofing repair, maintenance, and refurbishment sector, Topek Southern Limited (TSL) committed to fundraising for Young Lives vs Cancer in 2025, setting a two-year target of £50,000 which it recently smashed after its second charity golf day at Goodwood.

TSL Brand Manager Anna Beck conceived the idea to go above and beyond to support the charity further with a section of hoarding graphics on their latest construction site in Aberdeen, promoting the charity to the city.

Anna commented: “Whilst hoarding is critical for site security and public safety, for TSL installing high quality graphics is an essential part of providing a great aesthetic and sense of wellbeing to improve the construction experience for residents and the wider community. Alongside our fundraising efforts it seemed a natural progression to offer the charity some free promotional space.”

Charity Hoarding Initiative

Young Lives vs Cancer is a UK charity supporting families who have children and young people with cancer. TSL donated a five-metre section of hoarding, providing the charity with a promotional space in a prominent roadside position to boost its visibility and fundraising efforts.

Liz Blunt, Senior Fundraising Engagement Manager for Young Lives vs Cancer, commented: “Alongside fundraising a staggering £60,000, this invitation from TSL was incredibly generous. The charity supported 535 families with a child or young adult facing cancer across Scotland from April 2025 – March 2026, and this gift allows us to promote our services and seek financial support. We are so grateful to TSL for their wonderful fundraising and raising awareness of cancer in young patients.”

Anna Beck added: “We are delighted with the high-quality installation and will look to roll this out on other sites. We have no intention, or need, to turn this into a commercial venture, and hope this initiative inspires other construction companies and developers to support charities in a bigger, ethical way.”
