SAINT-GOBAIN has acquired a minority stake in Megasol’s manufacturing business of Building Integrated Photovoltaics (BIPV).

The share purchase enables Saint-Gobain to extend its sustainable solutions offer for BIPV façades. At the same time, it gives Megasol access to Saint-Gobain’s customer base.

BIPV Façades

BIPV FaçadesBIPV solutions contribute to sustainable construction and decarbonisation by producing energy on roofs and the vertical façades of buildings. Building owners can increase their own energy efficiency and generate revenue by feeding surplus electricity into the grid.

Patrick Maier, CEO Saint-Gobain Switzerland, said: “Thanks to the aesthetic design of Megasol’s products, its fully customized and industrialized production, we are extending the scope of our applications allowing significant growth for Saint-Gobain’s total façade solutions.”

Saint-Gobain’s investment is in line with its ‘Grow & Impact’ plan to strengthen its position in light and sustainable construction. The company has committed to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.

Markus Gisler, CEO of Megasol said: “With its sustainability strategy and immense expertise in glass and building envelopes, as well as its global presence, Saint-Gobain is the perfect partner to rapidly scale our business with our active solar building materials.”

Based in Deitingen in Switzerland, Megasol produces solar facades as well as solar tiles and solar roof systems with energy exclusively from renewable technologies.
