Powell Gee has strengthened its UK manufacturing facilities by investing in a sixth washering machine, expanding production capacity for its range of self-drilling screws for roofing and cladding.

The latest addition supports Powell Gee’s long-term commitment to in-house screw modification and provides greater flexibility when scheduling work across its washering operation.

Increased Washering Capacity

Powell Gee's new washering machineCapable of assembling washers onto fixings with diameters of 4.8mm, 5.5mm, 6.3mm and 7.0mm, the machine can accommodate screw lengths from 50mm to 300mm. The new machine alone can process approximately 100 to 400 pieces per minute, depending on the fixing specification – delivering up to 24,000 washered fixings an hour.

The additional capacity is already creating practical benefits. Operators have reported that fewer machine changeovers are required, reducing downtime and enabling longer production runs.

Paul Strong, Sales Director at Powell Gee, said: “For our customers, consistent quality, dependable availability, and short lead times are essential. With washering, powder coating and nylon moulding all available in-house, we offer a joined-up route from specification to supply.

“This additional washering machine increases our output and provides the capacity needed to respond to growing customer demand. It strengthens our ability to deliver the quality, reliability and service customers expect from Powell Gee.”

Significant Investment

The investment complements Powell Gee’s established powder coating and injection moulding capabilities. Backed by more than 30 years of powder coating experience, the company offers standard colours for next-day delivery, as well as bespoke colours that can be sourced and quality tested. Matt, gloss, and satin finishes are available, providing excellent corrosion resistance and outdoor durability.

Powell Gee also manufactures bi-hex heads from UV-stabilised nylon through injection moulding. These provide excellent corrosion resistance and help prevent fading caused by exposure to sunlight, with all RAL colours available on request.

The company will showcase its products and capabilities at BAU 2027, taking place at Messe München from 11–15 January 2027. Visitors can meet the Powell Gee team in Hall B2, Stand 531.

With increased washering capacity and several specialist processes retained in-house, Powell Gee is well positioned to support future demand and expand its reach across key markets.
