Read the latest magazine Industry News People Ex NMBS Chief Joins CPI as New Non-Executive Director 19 June 2026 Chris Hayward has joined CPI Ltd, the not-for-profit, independently governed organisation set-up to guard and assess conformance with the Code for Construction Product Information (CCPI). Chris will be acting as a non-executive director on the CPI board, following his recent retirement as chief executive of the independent merchants and distributors buying group NMBS. New Non-Executive Director Chris Hayward has significant standing across the construction sector with a strong network and knowledge spanning major aspects of the industry – including manufacturers, merchants, distributors and clients/contractors. Previously, as CEO and MD of NMBS for over 20 years, Chris grew the organisation to be the largest UK buying group for independent building, plumbing, hardware and timber merchants, with a £2bn annual turnover, 1150 members and 4500 branches. As well as experience as an non-executive director and chair, Chris has experience of development and delivery of digital solutions at scale.
