The CSCS Provisional card is currently issued as a one-time, six-month card. It’s designed for individuals working through a probationary period while employers assess whether they’re the right fit for a role in construction. However, some new entrants to the industry report struggling to secure steady employment within that window, and say once the card expires, getting back into construction can be difficult. Addressing this issue has been identified as one way to tackle the skills crisis. Feedback from employers and the Department for Work and Pensions suggests this is acting as a genuine barrier for new entrants, and is in some cases contributing to people leaving the industry entirely. Have Your Say To address this, CSCS is now consulting on a proposal to allow a one-off renewal of the Provisional card, giving individuals a second six-month period to find their footing in the industry. The consultation runs until Friday 17 April 2026. >> Read more about CSCS cards in the news Previous article Steadmans Investment Boosts Manufacturing CapabilityNext article A Proctor Group Welcomes New Director Share article You may also like View all News Industry News +1 3 September 2026 Builders’ Merchant Q2 Sales Fall Year-on-Year Adhesives +3 3 September 2026 Sika Acquires Turkish Adhesive and Sealant Manufacturer Industry News +2 3 September 2026 Construction Companies to Pilot New Deaf Awareness Training Programme Check out the latest issue 125 July-August 2026 View Now Past Issues Get in Touch Sign Up to Roofing Today Stay up to date with all of the latest news from Roofing Today by signing up to our weekly Bulletins… Sign Up Today Get in Touch
