Over £40k of Roofing Products Donated to New Charity Centre

MORE THAN £40,000 worth of roofing products have been donated to the Rob Burrow Centre for Motor Neurone Disease (MND).

The donation from roofing and building manufacturer Wienerberger UK & Ireland includes more than 33,500 roof tiles and ridges and 33,000 clips which will go towards the construction of the new centre’s roof.

Designed by Corstorphine & Wright Architects in partnership with the hospital’s clinical staff, patients, their families, and the wider MND community, the centre is being commissioned by Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust thanks to a fundraising appeal by Leeds Hospitals Charity.

Local contractor I&G is constructing the centre, which is now watertight, with attention moving to the internal fit out, in preparation for handover later this year.

Keith Barker, Chief Operating Officer at Wienerberger UK & Ireland, said: “When we heard of the chance to support the Rob Burrow Centre for Motor Neurone Disease we were eager to pursue the opportunity.

“Rob’s story was one that touched the hearts of people not just here in the UK but worldwide and this incredible centre will help his legacy to live on for generations to come.

“We would like to say a huge thank you to the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and Leeds Hospitals Charity for launching this amazing initiative and for allowing us to lend a helping hand. We’ll be following the construction of the centre with a keen eye from this point forward.”

New Charity Centre

The Rob Burrow Centre for MND will provide a calm and peaceful environment where all MND services can be housed under the same roof for the first time, including specialist nurses, physiotherapists, nutritionists and speech and language therapists.

Leeds Hospitals Charity have raised £6.8m to fund the new centre and create a landmark building fully able to support the treatment of MND.
