Visiting Collyweston Slate and Christ’s College Cambridge

RUSSELL BLACKALLER is today visiting Collyweston Slate mine as the guest of Claude Smith Ltd, finding out how the slate stones are mined and prepared for roofing.

Russell, who is the owner of Heritage Roofing Southwest and writes Traditional Roofing magazine, also today visited the live site where Collyweston stone slate is being used to re-roof a University of Cambridge Christ’s College building. Here, he not only appreciated the beauty of the roof stones but also the outstanding leadwork accomplished by Greg Lane owner of Heritage Leadwork.
