Daughter Follows in Father’s Footsteps at Burton’s Branch

A DAUGHTER is following in her father’s footsteps at Burton Roofing Merchants in Irvine, as Ashley Finnigan has been promoted to branch manager.

Her dad, Jim Finnigan, joined the branch 20 years ago and is retiring at the end of July, and Ashley is ready to build on his legacy. Burton in Irvine is one of the fastest-growing branches in the network. It supplies roofing materials across North Ayrshire.

Father’s Footsteps

The Finnigan family is deeply rooted in the branch’s success. Ashley is joined by her cousin John Finnigan, who has been promoted to assistant branch manager. Both of the Finnigan’s, started their careers at Burton Roofing 15 years ago. Robert Finnigan, Ashley’s uncle, has been a HGV driver for five years, while John’s partner, Morgan, works in sales.

Ashley explains: “I’d always been interested in my dad’s job and, after working in a few admin roles, decided to try it for myself – and I’ve never looked back.

“We are like a big family, and not just literally! There are 14 of us now, and we are a really close team. This is a people business, and I value the relationships I’ve built over the years with our customers – they are more like friends.

“I love my job. I enjoy the banter, the challenge and the fact that every day is different. I am one of four women at our branch, and I love that some customers are still surprised at the knowledge and expertise we all have. Our collective hard work has grown the Irvine branch, and it’s great to see our customers’ businesses grow with us. We moved to new premises a couple of years ago and have never looked back.

“I’ll miss my dad, but I’m looking forward to continuing his legacy with the values he’s taught me – hard work, respect and patience. And you never know, I could be welcoming one of my children at work in the same way.”

Amazing Team

Martin Armour, Commercial Manager at Burton Roofing added: “Our Irvine branch has seen excellent growth over the years and that’s testament to the amazing team we have there.

“Jim has been a great asset to Burton and has led his team by example, and I’ve no doubt that Ashley will do the same. She is proof that you can build an excellent career at Burton.”

Burton now operates 37 branches across the UK and employs 450 people. The company’s annual turnover is approximately £170 million, and it is part of the multinational Cupa Group.
