A better approach is to start with the two or three items that cause the most delays on current projects and build capability from there. Training is readily available. Many equipment manufacturers offer short courses that cover basic welding and cutting techniques. Experienced roofers who already work with lead and copper often find that the transition to workshop fabrication is shorter than expected. The skills overlap significantly, and the precision that comes from working on a proper bench rather than at height translates directly into better finished work on site. They tender for work that competitors have to turn away, hit programme dates that others miss, and deliver a level of finish that builds reputation. In a market where margins are tight and customers expect speed, controlling the fabrication process is a tangible operational advantage.
