Led by VELUX training instructor Dale Yates, the sessions were designed to introduce apprentices to the proper techniques for installing roof windows and waterproofing products, with a focus on precision, safety, and pride in workmanship. Dale said, “It’s important to train our next generation of roofers early to ensure we are maintaining the quality workmanship and pride in our work at all times. “It’s a passion of mine – I have a young boy myself, and if he gets into construction, I’d want to know there was someone out there as passionate as me, showing him best practice and wanting him to succeed.” Best Practice Training From fitting solar-powered VELUX windows to understanding air-tightness detailing, Dale took the time to guide each step, ensuring everyone left more informed and more inspired. Roof Slate & Tiling Apprentice, Jack commented on the session: “It was really interesting as it gave me a lot of insight into how to fit a window. I’ve watched it on site but it usually goes over my head. Dale slowed it right down, so it was easy to understand.” Waterproof Membrane Apprentice, Harry added: “It’s something that I never really do at work, so it’s good to get hands-on and see how it should be done properly.” Dale wrapped up the final session by leaving a set of VELUX products and resources behind, so the apprentices can continue exploring what they’ve learned and further embed best practice into their training. SIMIAN commented, “This final session of the academic year was more than just a demonstration, it was a chance for our apprentices to slow down and truly understand how quality work is done. “We’re proud of every apprentice who took part, and grateful to VELUX for their continued support in raising standards across the industry. Together, we’re helping to ensure that the next generation of roofers are not only technically capable but also passionate, professional, and proud of the work they do.” >> Read more about roof training in the news Previous article Minister for Skills Meets Homebuilders to Address Skills ShortageNext article Should You Fix Your Roof Before Selling?
