NACE Set to Re-launch NVQ & Training for Chimney Engineers and Sweeps

THE NVQ Level 2 for Chimney Engineering is being re-launched by the National Association for Chimney Engineers (NACE).

NACE is the single stakeholder of the NVQ, and as a not-for-profit trade organisation with a 39-year pedigree and expert status, it has revamped the qualification to ensure quality standards.

Demonstrating Competence

In 2024 the construction industry will make far reaching changes to the way labour is employed on site. In effect, this means that only trade trained and qualified individuals with verifiable credentials will be considered for site-based work. Those unable to demonstrate expertise and formal learning will not be employed.

Recognising this will result in an increased need to demonstrate competence, NACE is offering the NVQ Level 2 (SAP) Diploma and Certificate in Construction Skills (Chimney Engineering). It will be operated through On Site Assessment & Training (OSAT).

NACE has put in place a robust management system to oversee the operation of the NVQ.

NVQ Chimney Engineers

Applicants will be expected to demonstrate both practical skills and theoretical knowledge in accordance with recognised MTC standards. Data gathering will indicate individual strengths and weaknesses and when additional training is needed. This will be a valuable opportunity to upscale both knowledge and skills, helping candidates to become a valuable asset to the industry.

NACE will carry out pre-registering of candidates using Passive Data Gathering systems (PDG) to enhance its knowledge of the candidate and their upskilling requirements.

The organisation will be using its considerable client base and industry recognition to market the services and skills of NVQ achievers as the preferred, qualified option creating increased work and revenue opportunities for successful candidates.

Chimney Engineers OSAT

Candidates registered on the OSAT route with NACE will have access to over 120 CPD modules and Advanced Training Units (ATU) learning packages, backed up with mentoring.

This level of advanced competences covering every aspect of work on a domestic dwelling in both theory and practical, is not available from any other training establishment. CPD and ATU modules will form an integral element of the assessment award and will differentiate NACE from all other training providers. NACE believes passionately that learners should demonstrate competence in a broad subject area, enhancing and continuously improving our industry as well as consumer confidence.

Successful candidates will be given the opportunity and support to increase their business revenue awareness, market their business services and enjoy access to a large portfolio of prestigious clientele. Additionally, those who demonstrate competence will be offered an opportunity to apply for institute status.

LSTA Training Academy

If candidates require additional training, NVQ/CPD upskill training will be available at the premises of NACE’s joint venture partner, the Lead Sheet Training Academy (LSTA) based in Tonbridge, Kent.

Training needs will be based upon candidate theory and/or practical knowledge, identified during Passive Data Gathering. These opportunities are also available to colleagues within the roofing sector who may see the NACE, CPD upskilling opportunities and NVQ Construction skills award as a valuable addition to their current skill set.
