Man Dies and Second ‘Seriously Injured’ in Factory Fall from Height

A FATAL accident has resulted in the death of one contractor and the serious injury of a second man.

The accident took place at the Lantmännen Unibake factory in Milton Keynes on Monday 9^th October, at approximately 12:45.

In a statement, Lantmännen Unibake said the specialist contractors were undertaking a planned refurbishment of a baking line prover inside the bakery when they fell from height.

Despite all efforts, one of the workers was pronounced dead, while the other worker was thought to be ‘critically injured’.

Thames Valley Police were called to the bakery in the early afternoon on Monday. The police confirmed a 61-year-old man was found to be dead at the scene. Another man was airlifted to Oxford’s John Radcliffe Hospital by the air ambulance service.

Factory Fall from Height

Wendy Smith, Managing Director at Lantmännen Unibake said: “We are deeply shocked and saddened by this terrible incident, and our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with those affected and their families.

“We are offering support to all employees across the business affected by this.”

She added that the company was working closely with all parties including the Thames Valley Police and the Health and Safety Executive.
