LCB Roofing Apprentice Gets Award Along with Employer 

A LEEDS College of Building roof slating and tiling apprentice has been recognised at this year’s South Yorkshire Apprenticeship Awards alongside his employer.

Samuel Jinks won the sought-after Construction Apprentice of the Year Award after fighting off tough regional competition.

Samuel’s employer and Leeds College of Building partner, Dalton Roofing Ltd was also celebrating after winning SME Employer of the Year.

Dalton Roofing has implemented an all-qualified workforce strategy for several years, employing a team of 25 and keeping up their upskilling and training.

Samuel, Dalton Roofing’s apprentice, was chosen for his exceptional work ethic, his technical ability, and eye for detail. He said, “I have a long way to go yet, but I’m so proud of how far I’ve come. Thank you for all the support over the last year.”

David Mallory, Samuel’s roofing lecturer at Leeds College of Building, added, “Samuel is a fantastic student who really puts the effort in to achieve the best quality with his work. He constantly pushes himself with his skills and knowledge in roofing. He is a credit to himself and the company he works for, Dalton Roofing Ltd, which has supported him really well.”

Apprentice Recognised

Over 300 apprenticeship providers, apprentices, and employers from across the region gathered at Sheffield United FC to celebrate exceptional achievements at the latest South Yorkshire Apprenticeship Awards.

Hosted by radio DJ Rich Williams, 14 category winners were announced at the 2025 gala award ceremony which honoured the county’s outstanding apprenticeship network and successes.

Leeds College of Building

This is the latest success story for Leeds College of Building, after also celebrating winners at the West Yorkshire Apprenticeship Awards in Bradford held earlier in the month. Charlie Brady, a Level 4 Construction Quantity Surveying Technician Apprentice working at EN:Able Futures, won the Higher Apprentice of the Year Award.

Jake Sterling, employed at CML Civil Engineering and studying a Construction Quantity Surveying Degree Apprenticeship (in partnership with London South Bank Uni), also achieved Highly Commended in the Degree Apprentice of the Year category.
