Compass Roofing Tops UK Group at CUPA PIZARRAS Best of the Best Competition 2024

THE 2024 CUPA PIZARRAS Best of the Best competition saw Compass Roofing top the UK entries before French roofing contractor Rochard et Fils was crowned the ultimate global champion.

Every day, roofs are installed around the world using CUPA PIZARRAS slate with a range of installation skills and designs playing a role in the success of each project. Through the Best of the Best competition, CUPA PIZARRAS aims to highlight the best of what can be achieved using its natural slate.

To enter, CUPA PIZARRAS asked roofers from around the world to send in application videos showcasing their best work on a completed project or one still in progress. Entries were then sorted into regional groups with a winner for each group selected by readers of the CUPA PIZARRAS blog. New for this year, the ultimate winner was then chosen by a panel of industry judges from different countries, with a recognised track record in the field of natural slate.

Compass Roofing Tops UK Group

This year the entries to the UK group were Cambridgeshire based Roof Brothers, Waring Building & Roofing from North Yorkshire, Ryan Edgar Roofing from Galashiels, Compass Roofing from Edinburgh, Greenhill Roofing from Leeds, and national facades contractor, A2O Ltd.

Following the public vote, Compass Roofing was crowned the UK group winner. Familiar to the ‘Best of the Best’ competition, Compass Roofing took the overall global crown during the 2022 competition and continues to demonstrate highly intricate use of natural slate on its projects.

The other group finalists for this year were Duhamel Couverture from Group 1 (France), Rochard et Fils from Group 2 (France), Belgium-based Dakwerken Janssens from Group 4 (Belgium, Spain and Denmark), and Beijing Nanshang Technology Centre in China from Group 5 (International).

Best of the Best Competition 2024

“The exceptional craftsmanship displayed in the five winning projects was truly remarkable,” commented American expert Heidi Ellsworth, founder of the Roofers Coffee Shop website and National Women in Roofing (NWIR).

“The skill required to work in confined spaces while transforming slate pieces into art was extraordinary. The creation of domes, turrets, and intricate details showcased the crews’ expertise in reroofing and preserving the architectural beauty of these buildings. As a judge, it was a privilege to participate in recognizing and celebrating these outstanding achievements.”

French contractor Rochard et Fils was selected as the ultimate champion by the panel of judges, praised by the judges for “impressive work on an unlikely site” – island fortification Fort de la Conchée in the English Channel. As a result of their win, the Rochard et Fils team have been invited to visit the CUPA PIZARRAS quarries in northern Spain and they will also be taken to Madrid to watch a football match at the Santiago Bernabéu as their grand prize.
