CITB Funds 9,000 Apprenticeship Grants for Construction Employers

AS NATIONAL Apprenticeship Week starts today, CITB reports they funded 24,000 learners and 9,000 employers with apprenticeship grants between April to December 2024.

The organisation granted £50m for apprenticeships during April 2024 to March 2025, with the majority of the funding going to small businesses with less than 50 employees.

This report comes after the launch of the Cornwall College Roofing Apprenticeship last week making for a positive start to National Apprenticeship Week which has ‘Skills for Life’ as the theme this year.

Apprenticeship Grants

CITB’s New Entrant Support Team has also helped to fund over 3,500 new apprenticeship starts between April to December 2024. This more than doubles the number of new apprentices joining the industry compared to the previous period.

Additionally, CITB’s National Construction College (NCC) has seen its overall achievement rate for apprenticeships increase for the past three years. Achievement rates for 2024-25 are poised to reach the 70% target by April 2025. Additionally, 92% of people completing apprenticeships at the NCC remain in the industry.

Deb Madden, Executive Director for Nations Engagement at CITB, said: “A career in construction is an incredibly fulfilling one that I encourage everyone to consider. Nothing beats the valuable skills to be learnt, the sense of accomplishment seeing a project completed, and the well-paid roles that are available.

“There’s a misconception that construction jobs don’t pay well, but this simply isn’t true – the average UK construction worker’s salary is over £44,000, almost £9,000 higher than the average UK salary.”
