British Standards Calling for Comment on Portable Roof Ladders Specification

British Standards has published a draft BS8634 specification for Portable Roof Ladders.

The specification is for portable roof ladders designed solely to provide temporary access to pitched roofs with angles between 25° and 65° for tasks that are of short duration and low risk.

Portable Roof Ladders Specification

The Standard covers design features, general requirements and test methods for the portable ladders.

It will apply to:

• single section roof ladders
• extending roof ladders
• roof ladders with hinge (articulated) joints
• roof ladders with telescopic joints
• and multi-part (sectional) roof ladders.

It also applies to conversion equipment which are intended to modify roof ladders or convert other types of ladders into roof ladders.

The BSI is inviting anyone who would like to comment on the Standard to register and gain access to read the draft standard.

Comments should be submitted by 10 January 2027.
