Breyer Group Reportedly Files for Administration

ROOFING AND MAINTENANCE contractor Breyer Group has reportedly filed for administration today 2 April.

A voice message left by the finance department says, “Service is suspended due to non-payment of invoices.”

The company, which employs over 250 people, has faced three winding up petitions from companies seeking payment of unpaid debts.

Subcontractors have also said they had not been paid by Breyer Group, Construction Enquirer reported.

While two of the three winding up petitions lodged in court against Breyer in March were paid, a third was lodged with the court on Friday 28 March.

Lawyers, Fenwick Elliott submitted two of the requests for a winding up order. Partner of the firm, Edward Farren for its clients, said: “I can confirm we have been acting for multiple contractors owed large sums, some of which have been paid and sum of which remain outstanding.”

Accounts filed for the year ending May 2023 show Breyer Group’s turnover was £83 million, with profit before tax of just £637,000.

Despite appointing a turnaround strategist at the start of 2024, investing in the company’s ERP system and appointing new finance and commercial directors at the end of the year, the company’s profit margin of just 1.22% left little room for manoeuvre.

Breyer Group staff at the Romford office were reportedly told to go home on Monday 1 April, following mounting pressure as subcontractors demanded payment after turning up at Breyer’s Romford headquarters demanding debts were paid.

Talks are understood to be underway for the possible sale of parts of the business, which has three divisions: Breyer Roofing, Breyer Renew and Breyer Repair.

The financial instability of the firm came to head late last year as the new finance director Jess McCarthy and managing director Daren Moseley resigned. The posts were taken up current finance director John Davies and new managing director Mark Cane.
