Delivery of vocational qualifications through the NFRC Assessment Service is based on the needs of the individual operative. Assessment can be done mostly on-site rather than by visiting a college or exam centre. NFRC Assessment Service On-site assessment means that the VQ assessor visits learners in the workplace, completing live assessments with the roofing company’s team. This keeps written work to a minimum, and includes one-to-one professional discussions and witness testimonies from the operative’s site manager or colleagues. NFRC’s Careers Service can then support roofing businesses to understand and access the CITB funding available, to make assessment as cost neutral as possible. Businesses may be eligible to do this via CITB’s Skills and Training Fund. Firms can visit the NFRC website to find out if the NFRC Assessment Service meets their experienced worker assessment needs and how to get started. If this service isn’t the right fit, the NFRC Careers Service can help contractors find the right provider. Ruth Scarrott, NFRC’s Head of Careers Ruth Scarrott, NFRC’s Head of Careers, said: “We are delighted to be launching this service, in order to further support the roofing industry to upskill its experienced workers. “Many experienced workers are now looking to gain a qualification because of the upcoming withdrawal of grandfather rights as a way of obtaining a CSCS card, but even if this isn’t something your particular workforce needs, your people are worth investing in, and gaining proof of competency can be an immense source of pride and confidence.” Grandfather Rights CSCS Cards The Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) withdraws CSCS cards issued through Industry Accreditation, or Grandfather Rights, at the end of 2024. At that time, cards issued on the strength of an employer’s or trade body’s recommendation will no longer be recognised. The withdrawal of Grandfather Rights cards is designed to encourage construction workers to gain construction related qualifications and prepare them to prove competence. CSCS has estimated that there are around 60,000 Industry Accreditation cards held by construction workers. >> Read about more training opportunities in the news Previous article Considerate Constructors National Awards 2023 Winners RevealedNext article Work at Height Industry Urges Reporting Change Following HSE Statistics Share article You may also like View all News Health & Safety +3 10 October 2026 Employers Urged to Take Action This World Mental Health Day Apprenticeships +3 9 October 2026 National Construction College Scotland Hosts Swedish Delegation Industry News +1 9 October 2026 NFRC Launches All-New Personalised Member Portal Heritage Roofing +2 8 October 2026 Eight in Ten Scotland Heritage Employers Report Skills Gaps Sign Up to Roofing Today Stay up to date with all of the latest news from Roofing Today by signing up to our weekly Bulletins… Sign Up Today Get in Touch Check out the latest issue 126 September-October 2026 View Now Past Issues Get in Touch
