Major Roofing and Cladding Contractor Posts £9m Loss

SPECIALIST building envelope solutions company, Lindner Prater, has posted a £9m loss in 2021 after the previous year’s £5m profit, as well as a fall in annual revenue from £55.7m to £35.6m.

The roofing and cladding company, which ranked fourth in Roofing Today’s 2022 Top 40 UK Roofing Contractors, reports setting aside an undisclosed sum during 2021 to address problems with an unspecified “major project” which required the company to carry out remedial work.

The problem referred to is thought to be the leaking roof of broadcaster Sky’s headquarters, ‘Sky Central’ in Isleworth, West London, completed in 2016. The 41,000m² roof is constructed from a grid of rooflights designed by architects Amanda Levete and PLP Architecture.

Contractor Posts £9m Loss

In its strategic report, the company states that its fall in revenue was a consequence of the Covid 19 pandemic, and affected the facades division in particular. Falling activity in 2021 led to a reduction in staff to an average of 222 through the year, matching the reduced workloads.

Lindner Prater is owned by German parent company Lindner Building Envelope Gmb as its only shareholder and says it has a strong order book for 2022 with a £50m backlog. It adds that the company continues to be self-financing with no external borrowings.

In August 2022, Lindner Prater announced it won the contract to deliver barrel cladding, roofing, glazing and lower level cladding for the currently constructed Everton Stadium at Bramley Moore Dock in Liverpool, with main contractor Laing O’Rourke.
