Manchester City Council Formulates Retrofit Plan Low Carbon Homes Event

LOW CARBON HOMES MANCHESTER will take place online next week to help create a retrofit plan for the city, supported by MCS.

The event (on the mornings of Tuesday 23–Thursday 25 February) is hosted by Manchester City Council, and supported by Manchester Housing Providers Partnership and Manchester Climate Change Agency.

Manchester recently pledged its commitment in the Race to Zero campaign to mobilise support for cities and businesses to make the transition to net zero by 2050 in line with the Paris Agreement.

Zero-carbon

It committed the city to recognising the global climate emergency. Manchester declared a climate emergency in June 2019. Since then, it has adopted science-based climate change targets. This is to become a zero-carbon city by 2038, supported by a zero-carbon framework.

Manchester Housing Providers Partnership members are responsible for 70,000 homes in the local authority. Most of these will need retrofit measures to meet the 2038 target.
The Low Carbon Homes retrofit conference aims to tackle this challenge. The online platform used for the event ensures that all attendees can be active participants. Creating an environment focused on action and results.

Yet the determination of Manchester to become net-zero by 2038 remains, but with growing urgency. Retrofit at-scale offers many COVID recovery opportunities. Manchester has the vision to seize these opportunities but only once a robust plan has been developed.”
