Roof Refurbishment Complete at Cheshire Shopping Centre

ROOF REPLACEMENT and refurbishment works at a Cheshire shopping centre are now complete.

Working on behalf of Cheshire West and Chester Council, chartered surveyors Legat Owen has procured and managed a package of site improvement works across Winsford Cross Shopping Centre. The works were carried out onsite by local roofing contractor RMLFS.

Roof Refurbishment  

Prior to work commencing, and following persistent water ingress issues at the site, Legat Owen’s building surveying team were initially instructed to undertake a Specific Defects Survey. Having identified various defects, the ambitious repair and refurbishment project began in August 2024 and involved the replacement of the centre’s ageing barrel roofs with contemporary curved roofs.

In addition, central feature glazed roofs were improved, and large areas of felt flat roofing over multiple retail units have been refurbished to modern standards. This work included the installation of improved insulation to increase the thermal performance of the units.

Chris Marsh, Associate Director within Legat Owen’s Building Surveying Department, oversaw the mammoth project. He said, “It was critical that businesses within the shopping centre remained open throughout the project, and customers were able to shop safely with minimal disruption. This was a tricky task. The centre is busy throughout the day and undertaking works directly above public areas required careful planning and management. The success of the project is testament to the hard work of the whole project team involved.”

Samantha Sleigh, Associate Director at Legat Owen, added: “The roof works have greatly enhanced the appearance of the shopping centre. The centre is brighter inside, making it a more attractive area for shoppers and a more comfortable environment for tenants.”
