So, when Howletts Zoo reached out to the SIG Roofing branch in Folkestone for assistance, the team seized the opportunity to contribute to the unique project. Roofing Solution In August 2024, the SIG Roofing Folkestone branch collaborated with Kevin Rae from the SIG Industrial Roofing Centre (IRC) and Andy, the Maintenance Supervisor at Howlett Zoo, for a site visit. The IRC team developed a customised solution that is structurally sound, secure, and fully compliant with zoo regulations. They used single skin sheets and fabricated purlins that span 10 meters, providing exactly what was needed for the project. Elephant Enclosure Howletts Zoo, located in Littlebourne near Canterbury, is part of the Aspinall Foundation. The zoo serves as a breeding centre for rare and endangered animals. Over the past 40 years, its animal care methods have established it as a world leader in breeding rare species, including African elephants. This project demonstrates SIG Roofing’s commitment to assisting with any type of industrial roofing project, whether it be an elephant enclosure, a general roof or a large-scale warehouse.
