IoR Members Invited to Transition to CIOB Following Vote to Dissolve

FOLLOWING the majority vote to dissolve the Institute of Roofing (IoR) at the Extraordinary General Meeting on 14 February 2025, members can now begin their transition to the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB).

Since discussions began in 2023, CIOB and IoR have worked closely to ensure a “smooth and supportive transition”, providing continued access to professional development, networking, and a globally recognised route to chartered status.

Transition to CIOB

Fully subscribed IoR members (as of 31 December 2024) have been contacted individually by CIOB regarding their transition, with membership determined by expertise and qualifications.

Depending on their background, IoR members may join as a Technical Member (TechCIOB), Chartered Member (MCIOB), or Chartered Fellow (FCIOB), with opportunities to progress through CIOB’s membership framework.

To further support this transition, CIOB says it is committed to ensuring that roofing professionals have a strong voice within the organisation, integrating their expertise into its governance and policy work to strengthen industry connections and enhance knowledge-sharing across the built environment.

IoR Dissolution

The IoR Board will now begin the formal process of dissolving the organisation. The Institute is no longer accepting new members.

From August 2025, the IoR will cease generating income by ending subscription fees.

Once the dissolution is complete, IoR post-nominals (e.g., MIoR, FIoR) will no longer be valid for professional use. Members transitioning to CIOB will gain CIOB post-nominals, provided they meet the relevant membership criteria. A formal notification will be sent to members once the dissolution process is finalised.
