Whole Roofing Batten Team Becomes Certified Graders

THE WHOLE TEAM at a timber supplier has become certified graders of roofing batten.

SR Timber are recognised as roofing timber specialists, but until recently, its Trading Director, Shaun Revill, was the only qualified batten grader in the business.

Now, the entire team has completed training so that all members are certified to grade timber roofing battens to BS 5534:2014+A2:2018.

The team has successfully completed independent training to become certified batten graders. This certification ensures that they are now qualified and competent to grade roofing battens for commercial use.

The training enables the team to assist customers in identifying properly graded battens that are suitable for their intended purpose. Importantly, it also allows them to identify those roofing battens that don’t meet the British Standard. The training course was conducted by timber expert James Coulson from TTFT Woodexperts.

Roofing battens are designed to carry heavy weight loads and must be accurately graded and treated to ensure they are fit for purpose.

As a reputable supplier, SR Timber provides guidance on the appropriate dimensions, thickness, and width of the battens while ensuring that knots in the wood are not excessively large. All products must not exceed the tolerances outlined in BS5534.

Shaun Revill, Trading Director at SR Timber explains why it is important to provide regular staff training: “Throughout the entire supply chain—from production to installation—there is a responsibility at each stage to ensure that timber batten products are manufactured correctly.

“Educating clients on the benefits of using a properly graded roof batten that complies with BS 5534 is also an important part of this process, and now all our customer-facing employees are officially certified to do this.”
