Read the latest magazine Industry News Skills & Training Yorkshire Independent Roof Training Group Reports 800 Training Days Completed in 2025 6 November 2025 THE YORKSHIRE Independent Roof Training Group (YIRTG) is reporting a record 800 training days delivered in 2025. The roofing group’s exemplary track record highlights the support provided to roofing companies. Denise Cherry, YIRTG Officer, comments: “This year we have facilitated significant training, empowering individuals, and reinforcing a culture of competence and safety across Yorkshire’s roofing sector.” Over 800 Training Days Delivered The Group says that one of this year’s outstanding achievements is the completion of over 800 training days by member companies. Denise comments, “This reflects the member’s dedication to continuous learning, ensuring that roofing professionals have access to the latest skills, techniques, and health and safety practices.” Unlocking Funding for Skills Development The Group reports its pivotal role in helping 13 companies successfully apply for funding to support over £100,000 worth of training initiatives, including National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs). Denise adds, “By facilitating access to funding, YIRTG is supporting investment in the future of the industry and helping companies demonstrate their commitment to competence.” Free E-Learning on Essential Safety Topics Recognising the importance of accessible training, YIRTG has continued to offer 180 free e-learning courses on essential topics. This year’s offerings include: Working at Heights Manual Handling Asbestos Awareness: These courses help members to stay informed and compliant, regardless of their location or schedule. Proud to Promote Roofing Another of the key successes for YIRTG this year has been engagement with young people through Careers Events, including Give Construction a Try, STEMFest and Foundations. The have also been 10 in-school careers events, varying from a simple careers stand, to full school engagement in a range of activities. In October alone, YIRTG has engaged with over 480 students using a range of interactive resources developed by the YIRTG team- bringing youth engagement so far this year to over 1,000 students. Looking Ahead YIRTG remains committed to raising standards, supporting member companies, and fostering a safer, more skilled workforce whilst promoting roofing as an exciting, varied career.
