Waterproof Membrane Apprentices Go Behind the Scenes at Roofing Manufacturer

SIMIAN waterproof membrane apprentices recently visited roofing manufacturer and product partner, IKO to see first-hand how roofing materials are developed and manufactured.

Apprentices were given an in-depth factory tour hosted by Amy Earlam, IKO’s Quality Control and Research & Development Manager, who walked the group through each stage of the production process. From raw materials to final product, apprentices saw just how much technology and precision goes into making the products they rely on.

Behind the Scenes at IKO

Following the tour, the group headed over to IKO’s Training Academy where Technical Engineer, Thomas Simpson, delivered a detailed technical presentation. Apprentices were shown the full range of IKO products and how to apply them effectively and compliantly onsite, reinforcing the importance of both product knowledge and practical technique.

SIMIAN waterproof membrane apprentice Scott Finney said about the visit, “It was something new to be seen, I have never seen anything like this before. It uses a lot more technology than you think. The process was a lot longer. It’s absolutely mad! It’s mint – I am so grateful to IKO for allowing us to see this process. It will definitely make me use IKO on site.”

Fellow apprentice Dylan Hansen added: “I enjoyed learning more about it as I mainly use IKO onsite, so it’s good to know how it’s made and everything. I feel like I know a lot more about how to do it correctly onsite.”
