The winners of the\u00a02026 Excellence in Asphalt Roofing Awards have been announced by the\u00a0Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Association (ARMA)<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

From a historic Portland home to a major national museum, this year\u2019s winning projects demonstrate the beauty, affordability, and reliability of asphalt roofing across the country.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe received an impressive range of submissions, with each winner showcasing creativity, precision, and technical skill,\u201d said Reed Hitchcock, ARMA Executive Vice President.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cThese projects reflect the innovation and craftsmanship that define the asphalt roofing industry, and we look forward to celebrating the winners at the International Roofing Expo in Las Vegas.\u201d<\/p>\n

Excellence in Asphalt Roofing Awards<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The awards recognize outstanding low and steep-slope asphalt roofing projects across North America, judged in four key categories:\u00a0Why Asphalt, Project Challenges, Distinction, and Beauty.<\/p>\n

Top-scoring projects are awarded Gold, Silver, or Bronze medals, with additional honors available in Best-in-Class categories, such as\u00a0In the Neighborhood, Commercial\/Mixed Use, Craftsmanship, and Technical Difficulty.<\/p>\n

ARMA will honor winners at the\u00a02026 International Roofing Expo<\/a>\u00a0from January 20\u201322 in Las Vegas, Nevada.<\/p>\n

Winning companies will receive a monetary prize\u00a0(Gold \u2013 $2,000; Silver \u2013 $1,000; Bronze \u2013 $500), an official ARMA certificate, promotions on ARMA\u2019s website and social media platforms, authority-boosting materials, and national and local trade media exposure.<\/p>\n

2026 Winners<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Gold Award <\/strong><\/h4>\n

Winner: <\/strong>HER Roofing Co. Inc.<\/a> \u2013 The Settlemier House (Portland, Oregon)<\/p>\n

HER Roofing Co\u00a0played a pivotal role in the restoration of the historic 1892 Settlemier House by delivering a solution that balanced preservation and performance.<\/p>\n

The project included a full shake tear-off and re-roof of a steep-slope system, highlighted by a technically challenging cone roof.\u00a0Malarkey<\/a> Legacy\u00ae<\/sup> Shingles with Scotchgard\u2122\u00a0in Black Oak were selected for fire resistance and historically appropriate appearance.<\/p>\n

The team installed vertical plywood over 50 feet in the air, custom-fabricated curved wooden gutters, and returned the original copper spire to the top.<\/p>\n

Wedge Roofing<\/p><\/div>\n

Silver Award<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Winner: <\/strong>Wedge Roofing<\/a> \u2013 California Mid-Century Gothic (Sebastopol, California)<\/p>\n

Wedge Roofing\u00a0restored a mid-century hyperbolic paraboloid roof rising from a 6\/12 pitch to vertical across roughly 6,000 square feet.<\/p>\n

Owens Corning<\/a>\u00a0TruDefinition\u00ae<\/sup> Duration\u00ae<\/sup> Shingles in Brownwood\u00a0followed the roof\u2019s compound curves, allowing secure fastening on near-vertical surfaces and preserving the sculptural form.<\/p>\n

The team rebuilt the ridge with Douglas fir decking and structural plywood, integrated solar-powered and fixed Velux<\/a> skylights, and installed shingles over steep slopes. Two-ply modified bitumen and silicone-coated flat areas completed the system.<\/p>\n

The project resolved decades-old leaks and preserved the church\u2019s iconic profile.<\/p>\n

Priddy Roofing and Exteriors<\/p><\/div>\n

Bronze Award<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Winner: <\/strong>Priddy Roofing and Exteriors<\/a> \u2013 The Double Dome (Mercer, Pennsylvania)<\/p>\n

Priddy Roofing and Exteriors\u00a0replaced a roof consisting of 238 unique facets across two interconnected geodesic domes.\u00a0Owens Corning\u00a0TruDefinition\u00ae<\/sup> Duration\u00ae<\/sup> Shingles\u00a0in Williamsburg Gray provided the flexibility to follow the compound curves while maintaining strong fastening and sealant adhesion.<\/p>\n

The team installed the roof one facet at a time, with each course measured, cut, aligned, hand-sealed, and hand-nailed. Custom flashings accommodated triangular and irregularly shaped windows, while a perimeter intake and site-built circular ridge vent restored ventilation.<\/p>\n

The completed roof demonstrates that asphalt shingles can achieve reliability and striking visual impact, even on the most challenging architectural forms.<\/p>\n

KPost Roofing & Waterproofing<\/p><\/div>\n

Best-in-Class Award – Commercial\/Mixed Use Category<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Winner:\u00a0 <\/strong>KPost Roofing & Waterproofing<\/a> \u2013 National Medal of Honor Museum (Arlington, Texas)<\/p>\n

The National Medal of Honor Museum, designed by Rafael Vi\u00f1oly Architects, is a tribute to courage and sacrifice, featuring bold architecture and complex geometries.<\/p>\n

KPost Roofing & Waterproofing\u00a0installed a high-performing low-slope roofing system, seamlessly integrating a\u00a0SOPREMA<\/a> SBS-modified bitumen roof system, adhesives, and sealants to ensure durability, flexibility, and long-term protection. The system withstands extreme weather while preserving the museum\u2019s aesthetic and safeguarding exhibits.<\/p>\n

The final result enhances function and design, delivering a roof that protects the museum and stands as a lasting tribute to the heroes it commemorates.<\/p>\n
