THE INTRODUCTION of UK Conformity Assessed (UKCA) marking deadline for manufacturers and distributors has been extended by one year to January 2023.

UKCA product marking is used for goods imported from the EU or placed on the market in England, Wales and Scotland (UKNI covers goods in Northern Ireland). It covers most goods which previously required the CE marking.

Chief Executive of the National Federation of Roofing Contractors (NFRC), James Talman, said: “At a time when we are facing some of the worst material availability and inflation in living memory, this announcement will come as a welcome relief for manufacturers and merchants.

“We have been telling the government that the 1January 2022 deadline was not feasible for some time, with many products simply unable to receive certification by the deadline. I am glad that the message has now got through. This extra time will provide much-needed breathing space for suppliers to undertake the necessary tests and acquire the correct paperwork.

“The government should now work with industry to ensure the supply chain is fully prepared for the new 2023 deadline, particularly smaller firms, so we do not face similar problems in the future”

UKCA Marking

UKCA marking officially came into effect on 1 January 2021. However, to allow businesses time to adjust CE marking remains acceptable – now until 1 January 2023.

The British Board of Agrément (BBA) continues to accept existing reports, including data from EU Notified Bodies, as well as other accredited laboratories, for UKCA and UK European technical assessments (ETA), in addition to continuing to do so for BBA Certification.
