UK Regions Take Lead on Housing Retrofit for Low Carbon Homes

TODAY (7 September) Low Carbon Homes, supported by the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS), opens registration for six online events. They will consider how best to rapidly scale up the retrofitting of housing locally.

Each free event consists of three days of discussion and knowledge-sharing. This follows the UK Government releasing more details of its £2bn Green Homes Grant scheme for England. The Scottish Government has announced an extra £1.6bn to de-carbonise buildings – each to be spent in the current parliament.

Graham Lock, Founder of the Low Carbon Homes events says, “We’re delighted with the continued development of Low Carbon Homes, especially the successful online transition.  On the back of a successful online event with Birmingham City Council in July, and four in-person events last year, we have already brought together more than 500 influential stakeholders across the UK. We are now on track to more than double that over the next 6 months.

“For each event we focus on achieving clear outcomes that enable our host partners to take a significant step forward towards achieving their local retrofit goals.  We believe that a local approach is the only way to achieve retrofit at scale – to reduce the carbon impact of housing, eradicate fuel poverty and stimulate local economic recovery.”

Low Carbon Home Events

The six events announced are:

• Derbyshire, 06-08 October, hosted by Derbyshire County Council, Chesterfield Borough Council, South Derbyshire District Council and University of Derby
• Glasgow, 20-22 October, hosted by Glasgow City Council
• Manchester, 03-05 November, hosted by Manchester City Council
• Liverpool, 01-03 December, hosted by Liverpool John Moores University
• Kent, 26-28 January, hosted by Kent County Council
• Oxfordshire, 09-11 February, hosted by Cosy Homes Oxfordshire
