Twelve Yorkshire Churches Get £80k Grants

TWELVE YORKSHIRE churches have received £80,000 in combined grants from the Yorkshire Historic Churches Trust.

The money will go towards various restoration works, including guttering, roof, stonework and spire repairs.

Beneficiaries needing roof work include: St Bartholomew church in Arkendale, St Helen church in Stillingfleet, St Margaret of Antioch in Brotton Parva and All Saints church in Clayton West.

St Margaret of Antioch, in Brotton Parva, was given £8,000 for urgent roof repairs.

Marshall Best, churchwarden at St Margaret’s, said: “Restoring our church roof will enable much greater use of the building and accommodate multiple user groups.

“Our region is preparing for substantial industrial investments supporting renewable energy, with thousands of new jobs expected to be created over the next 10 years.

“The grant awarded will strengthen our ability to grow through mission and outreach.”

Churches Get £80k Grants

Yorkshire Historic Churches Trust is a non-denominational charity whose objective is to help churches in Yorkshire through offering grants for repairs and maintenance.

Founded in 1988, the trust has funded almost £3,000,000 worth of grants to more than 800 churches.

Tom Ramsden, Chairman of the YHCT said: “Yorkshire is home to many of the most important churches in the United Kingdom. They dominate the landscape, they are vital to the life of many communities, and they are full of the treasures of our heritage.

“Trustees were delighted to award funding to such a wide range of churches from all across the region and are delighted to help these much loved places of worship secure their future for generations to come.”
