Capel CS has helped transform an extensive range of railway stations across the UK’s network. They have now been brought on board to renew elements of the platform canopy at Burnham-On-Crouch station in Essex. As full scope design and build contractors, they will transform the existing life-expired canopy, following initial surveys and the removal of redundant mechanical and electrical equipment. While working to carry out repair works on structure defects, Capel CS will preserve the original foundations, and will also supply and install both temporary and permanent lighting on the platform. Canopy Roof Dagger Boards In addition to the replacement of the existing canopy roof and expired sections, its existing dagger boards will also be replaced. New, maintenance-free GRP (glass-reinforced-plastic) style dagger boards will honour the original scalloped design of the canopy. The canopy will also see a brand new supply and installation of a man-safe system, protecting workers carrying out its future maintenance. Simone Bailey, Asset Management Director, Greater Anglia, said “We are pleased to be restoring the canopy at Burnham-on-Crouch to improve the facilities for station users and the appearance of the station for the local community. Investing in upgrades to stations across the network is extremely important to Greater Anglia, demonstrating our commitment to providing excellent facilities and service standards for our customers.” Capel CS will finish by repainting the station building and canopy with Greater Anglia’s brand colours of red and grey. The project is expected to complete in mid-spring of 2024. >>Read more about canopy roof dagger boards Previous article Rooflight Association Contractor Membership for GeoRoofNext article Construction Hit by House Building Recession: CPA Winter Forecast Share article You may also like View all News Industry News +2 20 March 2026 RA Issues Revised Safety Guidance on Rooflight Covers Awards and Events +3 20 March 2026 The Great British Slate Off Returns for 2026 Green Roofs +3 20 March 2026 Swansea Joins Global Network of Biophilic Cities Featured Solutions +3 19 March 2026 Flush Fitting Rooflights by Clement Sign Up to Roofing Today Stay up to date with all of the latest news from Roofing Today by signing up to our weekly Bulletins… Sign Up Today Get in Touch Check out the latest issue 123 March-April 2026 View Now Past Issues Get in Touch
