Boom lifts

An investigation by the independent government body, the Trade Remedies Authority (TRA) has concluded China is dumping boom lifts into the UK market.

Publishing its intended final determination and recommendation for remedies the TRA says the Chinese equipment is being sold at less than its normal value and is causing harm to UK industry.

Chinese Boom Lifts Dumped on Market

Boom lifts — or cherry pickers — are aerial work platforms used to lift people, equipment, or materials to elevated heights. They are used across multiple sectors in the UK for tasks including construction and maintenance.

The TRA has calculated that Chinese boom lift import prices undercut the UK industry by more than 25% since October 2021 to 30 September 2025.

The TRA says an anti-dumping measure should be applied by taxing the imports up to 82.89% in the economic interest of the UK.

As part of its investigation process, the TRA conducts an Economic Interest Test (EIT) to consider the economic impacts — both beneficial and harmful — of imposing a trade remedy measure.
