Get Britain Building campaign

As the Chancellor prepares for the Autumn Budget, one reality stands out above all others: Britain needs growth. At every major turning point in Britain’s economic history, from post‑war reconstruction to the recovery after the 2008 financial crisis, building has been at the heart of national renewal. Today, the challenge is no different.

Get Britain Building

The relaunch of the Get Britain Building campaign, developed by the Building Alliance and the Federation of Master Builders, sets out four pillars to drive rapid economic growth.

The programme focuses on creating skilled employment, strengthening the construction supply chain, and increasing the participation of small and medium‑sized enterprises (SMEs) whose contribution is essential to the health and resilience of the sector.

At the centre of the campaign is a call for Government to take decisive action to restore consumer confidence and close the affordability gap. Unlocking pent‑up demand and re‑energising the new homes market is critical to stimulating activity across construction and its extensive supply chain, the Building Alliance says.

Mike Leonard, BEM, CEO of the Building Alliance, said: “This is a pivotal moment for the UK economy, the construction industry, and the supply chain. Building material manufacturers are suffering from very low demand, high energy costs, and increased employment costs. Failure to act now will see more factories closing, the loss of skilled workers and an increased dependency on imports. As the Government seeks to stimulate growth and security through reindustrialisation, it is vital to secure the future of our building products production.

“The Prime Minister’s announcement of the ‘Your First Home Scheme’ is very welcome, but other measures are also needed and urgent action is required. Any delay will cause potential purchasers to pause, resulting in further damage to an industry that stands ready to lead the UK’s economic recovery.”

The Prime Minister has set out an agenda focused on reindustrialisation, tackling youth unemployment, and growing the economy. The Building Alliance says the case is clear: if Britain wants growth, resilience, and skilled employment, the time has come to Get Britain Building.
