Tek Clad Shortlisted for Two National Building Awards

WEYMOUTH-BASED roofing and cladding installation company Tek Clad is celebrating a double nomination in the shortlist for the RIDBA Building Awards 2025.

The coveted annual awards, presented by the Rural and Industrial Design and Building Association (RIDBA), recognise excellence in the design and construction of agricultural, industrial, and commercial buildings.

Tek Clad Shortlisted

Two of Tek Clad’s projects have been shortlisted – the regeneration of a run-down factory and work on a new retail unit at a site in Chard, Somerset, is a finalist in the Commercial category.

Meanwhile Tek Clad’s work at Stoney Ridge Farm, a heritage barn conversion near Somerton, landed it on the shortlist in the Residential and Offices category.

Managing Director Ian Hambidge, who founded Tek Clad in 2010, said the recognition is a landmark moment for the company, which celebrated 15 years in business in the spring.

He said: “To be shortlisted in two categories during our 15ᵗʰ year is a proud achievement. Both projects tested our team in different ways, and it’s brilliant to see that effort recognised nationally.”

Tapstone Chard

The Commercial project, Tapstone Chard, saw the Tek Clad team deliver the full building envelope across two buildings – refurbishing an existing unit and cladding a new-build retail space.

Challenges included working around the out-of-square walls of the original factory space, and the integration of multiple cladding systems, with the Tek Clad team working closely with designers from the earliest stages to ensure features and materials aligned perfectly.

Stoney Ridge Farm

While at Stoney Ridge Farm, skilled workmanship was required to adapt a set of warped, ageing barns with complex rooflines into a high-spec family home. The age and nature of the buildings required Tek Clad to establish their own lines and levels, setting accurate datum points to guide the work. Their meticulous attention to detail extended to measuring and marking-up every fixing location and making use of low-profile fixings to add to the streamlined aesthetic.

Client Mike Dunlop, who developed the Stoney Ridge project, praised their “exceptional workmanship,” adding: “They understood the vision from the start and got the detail absolutely right.”

Tek Clad, which recently invested £340,000 in new kit to support growth, operates across the South and beyond, delivering on commercial, industrial and bespoke residential schemes. The firm holds Constructionline Gold, SafeContractor, and NFRC accreditations, and has recently become an installer member of the MCRMA.

The RIDBA Building Awards 2025 will take place at Manchester’s Concorde Centre on Friday, September 19, when the winners will be announced.
