Strong Results for Top Roofing Contractor

STRONG RESULTS were reported for County Durham-based roofing contractor, Hathaway Roofing, in its latest accounts to the year end 30 September 2022.

Growth in turnover topped £82.5 million, up from £54.2 million – an increase of 52%. While some of the volume growth can be accounted for by rising prices, the company increased its industrial sector activity.

Increased turnover yielded a pre-tax profit of £3.4 million, up from £2.3 million in 2021.

Ranking fifth in Roofing Today’s 2022 Top 40 UK Roofing Contractors, the new results would put Hathaway Roofing in the top place for 2023, with Avonside Group going out of business and all other results being equal.

The directors have an “optimistic” view for the future with a forward order book at £70 million for 2023. While material availability is seen as less of a threat than in recent years, inflationary pressures on pricing is still being carefully managed in collaboration with Hathaway’s clients. However, an expectation is mentioned “of material prices ‘softening’”.

Established in 1967, Hathaway Roofing designs, manufactures and installs roof and wall cladding systems for a variety of industrial, commercial and residential buildings.

The directors pinpointed their expertise in logistics warehousing, manufacturing, food, leisure and data as a particularly strong point for growth.

With a 109 workforce, the company says it is continuing to invest in staff training to deliver its planned level of activity. It adds, “Our staff turnover is almost zero, which reflects our commitment to investing in our people and recognizing their contribution to the business. The sharing of profit across the business is a reward for the effort and success gained as a highly motivated team.”

Working with Planet Mark, the sustainability consultants, Hathaway Roofing reports total gross emissions for the year as 3.1 tonnes of carbon emissions per employee. Hathaway says, “This reflects our increased working hours due to our growth… however we continue to invest in expanding our green fleet to full electric vehicles, LED lighting.”
