Read the latest magazine Featured Solutions Flat Roofing Membranes Reinforced Bituminous Membranes (RBM) SOPRATORCH Torch-Applied Bituminous Membranes for Flat Roofing Systems 26 June 2025 DEVELOPED specifically for the UK market and professional installers, SOPREMA’s SOPRATORCH range is designed for flat roofing applications in both refurbishment and new build projects. Each membrane features defined material specifications and performance data to support accurate specification and long-term use in real-world applications. Material Composition and Functional Options SOPRATORCH membranes are manufactured using either SBS (styrene-butadiene-styrene) or APP (atactic polypropylene) modified bitumen. Both types are reinforced with polyester, with the choice of bitumen modifier and membrane thickness influencing the membrane’s flexibility, thermal response, and installation suitability: SBS-modified membranes are formulated to remain pliable at lower temperatures and can be considered where movement due to seasonal temperature changes or structural dynamics is expected. APP-modified membranes are designed to provide increased rigidity at higher temperatures and may be selected where greater exposure to heat or solar gain is expected. Each SOPRATORCH membrane includes a thermofusible film on the underside for use with torch-on application methods. Upper surfaces are finished with slate mineral granules and are available in a range of colours to meet certain design or thermal performance considerations. SOPRATORCH Products SOPRATORCH SL 400 A practical choice, this SBS-modified membrane has a 4 mm nominal thickness and is suitable for use in single or multi-layer flat roof systems where flexibility and straightforward torch application are required. SOPRATORCH SL 490 An SBS-modified membrane supplied in a 7 m x 1 m roll format, suitable for use in single or multi-layer flat roofing applications where reduced roll length supports easier handling in confined or restricted-access areas. Learn more. SOPRATORCH SL 500 With nominal thickness of 4.7 mm this SBS-modified membrane is designed for use as a cap sheet in flat roofing systems. Available in black, grey, or brown flamed mineral finishes, it supports visual coordination on exposed roof areas while providing a torch-applied waterproofing layer with defined performance characteristics. When installed as part of a compliant system build-up, SOPRATORCH SL 500 can achieve Broof(t4) classification, supporting compliance with building control fire performance requirements. Learn more. SOPRATORCH SL 600 This SBS-modified membrane is reinforced with composite polyester providing proven mechanical performance. With a nominal thickness of 4 mm, it is suited for use as a cap sheet in flat roofing systems subject to higher foot traffic, mechanical stress, or concentrated loads. Learn more. SOPRATORCH SG 400 An APP-modified membrane with a nominal thickness of 3.9 mm, suitable for use as a cap sheet in warm roof constructions or exposed flat roofs where resistance to high temperatures and dimensional stability are important considerations. Learn more. Environmental and Project Support SOPRATORCH membranes are pH neutral and are not manufactured with substances identified as hazardous to standard roof drainage systems.
