Read the latest magazine Industry News Small Brownfield Site Guide Published for Developers and Builders 8 November 2018 SMALL BROWNFIELD sites pose particular challenges to developers and builders. With support from the NHBC Foundation, the construction industry research and information association (CIRIA) has compiled a guide that aims to provide clear and practical advice to help construction workers navigate the particular barriers and issues that characterise small brownfield sites. Development of brownfield land is a key part of the Government’s strategy to increase house building across the country and, if well planned and managed, small sites can be developed relatively quickly giving a faster return on investment than larger sites. Small Brownfield Site Guide The guide, A guide to small brownfield sites and land contamination, focuses on the key phases of a development, from assessing project viability and submitting planning applications, through the whole construction process to closeout and management of dormant sites, with an emphasis on dealing with land contamination. Commenting on the publication, Neil Smith, NHBC’s Head of Standards, Innovation and Research said, “This new guide is essential reading for anyone considering the purchase of smaller brownfield sites, helping them minimise risks before, during and after development. “Land owners of small brownfield sites that require on-going contaminated land management will also find the guidance beneficial.” The guide is available for download from the NHBC Foundation. >> Read more about NHBC in the news Previous article Surge of Support for 100% Hackitt from Construction IndustryNext article £5m CITB Funding Boost to get Hard-to-Reach Candidates into Construction Share article You may also like View all News Industry News +2 20 March 2026 RA Issues Revised Safety Guidance on Rooflight Covers Awards and Events +3 20 March 2026 The Great British Slate Off Returns for 2026 Green Roofs +3 20 March 2026 Swansea Joins Global Network of Biophilic Cities Featured Solutions +3 19 March 2026 Flush Fitting Rooflights by Clement Sign Up to Roofing Today Stay up to date with all of the latest news from Roofing Today by signing up to our weekly Bulletins… Sign Up Today Get in Touch Check out the latest issue 123 March-April 2026 View Now Past Issues Get in Touch
