The programme installed an urgently needed extension for the Joshua Tree charity, a children’s cancer support service based near Northwich, Cheshire. The Joshua Tree was founded by Lynda and Dai Hill 20 years ago after their son Joshua was diagnosed with leukaemia when he was just 5 years old. Joshua is now a healthy 26-year-old, but their work has continued, and the charity currently supports more than 300 local families. Urgent Need The Joshua Tree urgently needed to expand its services. This was because demand for the charity’s services is increasing as families are travelling from further away to access treatment at Alder Hey and Manchester Children’s hospitals in the North West. The BBC DIY SOS team, with the help of local tradespeople, suppliers and volunteers, stepped in to nearly double the size of the charity’s facility in Cheshire. The ambitious build included a gym, new therapy and counselling rooms, safe play areas and much-needed accommodation for families travelling long distances for treatment. The build work was both started and completed in September this year and was aired on BBC TV as a Children in Need Special on the 14th November. SIG Roofing Support SIG Roofing was contacted to supply roofing products to help with the extension. To meet the specification requirements and aesthetics of the building, 255 metres of Sinusoidal Metal Roof Sheets in Anthracite were supplied by SIG Roofing’s Warrington branch. Grid Neutral, solar installation experts, had worked with DIY SOS before, and they also contacted SIG Roofing to supply 12 Q-CELL 435kW black solar panels to fix to the sheet metal roof. The solar panels are vital to support the charity’s energy needs and reduce energy running costs. They were supplied, along with fixing accessories, from Grid Neutral’s nearest SIG Roofing branch in Grimsby. Tight Timeframes As always with DIY SOS, there were tight timeframes to complete this project. SIG Roofing played its part in getting the products to the project in time. Then the real work was started by the installers who fitted the roof and solar panels. SIG Roofing’s Charlotte Pritchard, Marketing Director, said, “They did an incredible job, the end result is stunning, and all for a great cause.” >> Read more about SIG Roofing in the news Previous article Nine Year Old School Roof Needs ReplacingNext article Rainscreen Façade Training Bookings Open Share article You may also like View all News Charity News +2 17 March 2026 Tips for Improving Workplace Stress Management Charity News +2 4 March 2026 Band of Builders Completes Life-Changing Project for Retired Builder Charity News +2 18 February 2026 Volunteer Roofers Needed for Upcoming Band of Builders Projects Charity News +2 12 February 2026 Charities Team Up to Deliver Suicide Prevention Live Webinar Sign Up to Roofing Today Stay up to date with all of the latest news from Roofing Today by signing up to our weekly Bulletins… Sign Up Today Get in Touch Check out the latest issue 123 March-April 2026 View Now Past Issues Get in Touch
