Scottish Natural Heritage Enlists Help of Roof Edge

ROOF EDGE, a supplier of fall protection equipment and safety railing systems, has installed a hard-wearing safety solution on Scottish Natural Heritage’s HQ roof in Inverness.

Founded in 1992, Scottish Natural Heritage works to improve the natural environments in Scotland. After years of improving the Scottish countryside, they decided to focus their efforts on improving their head office’s rooftop safety with the help of Roof Edge. After a thorough site survey, it was determined that a Kee Walk® with Guardrail system would be the most effective solution, incorporating a Kee Gate into the system for added security.

The Kee Walk® with Guardrail system is a safe access solution consisting of walkway and guardrail which can be installed quickly and easily on a wide variety of roofs. It is a safe, compliant and modular approach to guardrail protection and eliminates the fall hazard typically present when workers are exposed to an unprotected edge whilst accessing or egressing a roof top.

Fall prevention

A roof top walkway with guardrail is the most preferred fall protection system as dictated in the hierarchy of control measures; it provides the highest level of collective fall prevention for roof access and work at height. It has also provided a non-slip walkway, utilising purpose-made clamped fixings suited to the standing seam roof covering and avoiding roof penetrations, ensuring a watertight outcome.

The Kee Gate provides safe access onto the existing roof lifelines and automatically closes behind the user, maintaining the integrity of the Kee Walk® with Guardrail system. Kee Gate is a fully adjustable range of self-closing safety gates for use in rooftop or industrial environments.

Safety gates are ideal for protecting any openings, ladder/stair access points, roof hatches, walkways, access to industrial machinery and other restricted areas, where regular access for maintenance and inspection is required. The gates are spring loaded so will automatically close behind the user.
