The Rooflight Association (RA) has published revised safety guidance addressing permanently fixed rooflight covers and framed wire mesh systems, following feedback from rooflight cover manufacturers.

The Rooflighting Safety Bulletin 2026 replaces the Rooflighting Safety Bulletin 2025/1, originally published last October.

Additional Clarification

The guidance primarily supports those working on large-span metal clad industrial, commercial and storage buildings and relates to all in-plane rooflights. Especially relevant to roofing contractors and rooflight installers, it provides key considerations before using rooflight covers, along with detailed guidance and recommendations.

The RA says the updated document reflects feedback received since the initial publication and provides additional clarification in several areas to support practical and effective implementation.

Revised Safety Guidance

As with the original document, the revised guidance has been produced collaboratively with the National Federation of Roofing Contractors (NFRC).

The RA urges roofing contractors and rooflight manufacturers and installers to familiarise themselves with the revised guidance in Rooflighting Safety Bulletin 2026 and to share this information with current and prospective customers to inform better decision-making.

Further safe access and roof work practices can be found in HSE’s guidance document HSG33, Health & Safety in Roof Work.
