Ray Watt, Defence Relationship Manager for the Highland Reserve Forces’ and Cadets’ Association, led the signing at Macleod Roofing’s headquarters on 18 November. The event marked the company’s recognition of the vital contribution that serving personnel, reservists, veterans and military families make to both business and community life. Armed Forces Covenant By signing the Covenant, Macleod Roofing has joined thousands of UK employers in committing to ensure fair treatment and equal opportunities for those connected to the Armed Forces. The agreement reflects the company’s long-held belief that the skills and values gained through military life – discipline, teamwork and resilience – are a natural fit within its industry. Sandy Macleod, Managing Director of Macleod Roofing, said: “We’ve always been proud to support the Armed Forces community, but signing the Covenant is about taking that a step further. “Many of the qualities that make great roofers are the same as those developed in service – reliability, leadership and a strong sense of teamwork. We want to make sure veterans, reservists and their families feel valued and supported here.” Guaranteed Interviews The company’s commitment includes guaranteed interviews for veterans who meet essential job criteria, flexibility for reservists balancing training or deployment, and support for military spouses and partners through adaptable working arrangements. Macleod Roofing also plans to offer discounted or pro bono roof repairs for veterans or military families across the Highlands. This is alongside continued backing for Armed Forces charities and Remembrance events. Ray Watt, Defence Relationship Manager, said: “Macleod Roofing’s pledge demonstrates genuine leadership in recognising the contribution of the Armed Forces community. It’s encouraging to see a company so rooted in its local area stepping forward to make that support official.” Inclusive Community Care With over 30 years of experience in the north of Scotland, Macleod Roofing sees the signing of the Armed Forces Covenant as the latest in a series of commitments that underline the firm’s belief in inclusive employment and community care. “We’re lucky to live and work in a place that values service and community spirit,” added Sandy. “This Covenant is a way for us to honour that spirit, to open our doors to those who’ve served, and to build stronger futures together.” Founded in 1990 by Sandy Macleod, Macleod Roofing has established a strong reputation for quality workmanship, reliability and long-term client relationships, underpinned by a commitment to supporting the communities it serves. From fundraising for local charities to backing youth organisations and sports clubs, Macleod Roofing continues to invest in projects that deliver real value across the Highlands and Moray.
