Rogue Roofers

TWO rogue roofers who scammed vulnerable customers in the Bristol area out of a total sum of £250,000 have been jailed.

Rogue Roofers

Patrick O’Connor and Patrick O’Brien were found to have carried out work on the homes of customers whilst posing as legitimate roofers using false names and accents. The work was sometimes unsolicited, and the targets were often susceptible, elderly people.

Homeowners had been left with costly bills after small jobs quickly turned into large-scale work which was rushed and poorly executed, leaving customers forking out more money to repair extra damages, the court heard.

Sentencing

On 13 October 2022, O’Connor (33) and O’Brien (23) appeared for sentence at Bristol Crown Court where they both pleaded guilty to multiple counts of fraudulent trading.

Patrick O’Conner had a previous like fraud offence on his record; he was sentenced to jail for four years. Patrick O’Brien was sentenced to jail for to two years and eight months.

The men were also banned from trading and disqualified from being company directors by Judge James Patrick. He told them: “There has been considerable detrimental effect on the victims. What you did caused them considerable concern. They have lost trust in law-abiding people and have been very significantly upset.”

Those exploited by the pair include homeowners in the Bristol and surrounding areas, including residents in Stockwood, Southville, Stapleton and Bradley Stoke.
