Person Injured in Building Site Roof Collapse

THE ROOF of an Isle of Wight barracks where construction work is being carried out collapsed on Thursday 27 February, leaving one person with minor injuries.

Albany Barracks is currently being converted into a new training and education facility for charitable training and skills provider, UK Sailing Academy (UKSA) as part of the Venture Quays Levelling Up programme.

The Isle of Wight Council, which owns the barracks, says it is “actively investigating” the case of the roof collapse.

In a statement to the Isle of Wight County Press, the Council said: “Albany Barracks, owned by the Isle of Wight Council, is part of the Venture Quays Levelling Up programme.

“The roof that collapsed is part of a new extension intended to house a purpose-built shower block for our end tenant, UKSA.

“The site is under the control of the main contractor whilst the project progresses.

“We are actively investigating the cause of the collapse while coordinating with all parties involved.”
