Persimmon Signs UK Government’s Developer Pledge

Persimmon has signed DLUHC’s Developer Pledge which sets out the industry’s commitments to removing cladding and remediating fire safety issues in buildings over 11 metres.

The move follows discussions with the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities that Persimmon says were ‘constructive’,

Persimmon says the Developer Pledge’s responsibilities are consistent with the approach already announced by the housing developer in February 2021. Persimmon announced early last year it would pay for the costs of cladding removal and the remediation of fire safety issues on the multi-storey buildings it constructed.

Persimmon now says it will address life-critical fire-safety issues on all buildings of 11 metres and above in England developed by the business in the past 30 years and will not claim any funds from the Building Safety Fund, funded by the taxpayer.

Of the 33 developments identified by Persimmon as likely to require remediation work, four have now had EWS1 certificates to assess the problems and Persimmon says it is working closely with the management companies and agents of the remaining 29 buildings to complete any necessary works as soon as possible.

Dean Finch, Group Chief Executive said:  “Over a year ago we said that leaseholders in multi-storey buildings Persimmon constructed should not have to pay for the remediation of cladding and fire related issues. We are pleased to reaffirm this commitment today and sign the Government’s Developer Pledge.

“We made this commitment last year as we believed it was not only fair for leaseholders but also the right thing to do as one of the country’s leading homebuilders. We are pleased that we were able to work constructively with the Government to secure this agreement.”
