North Wales Roof Truss Firm Gets Go Ahead on Expansion

Minera Roof Trusses has secured planning approval to expand its operations with a move to new, bigger premises on a former dairy site in Wrexham, North Wales.

The move to the new site, which is next door to the firm’s existing buildings, will allow the company to increase production of its subsidiary company Tŷ Eco MMC which manufactures timber frame housing kits.

The timber frame housing kits are designed by Minera Roof Trusses to achieve passive house standards making them up to 90% more energy efficient than traditional buildings and up to 75% more efficient than new builds.

The company says moving premises will involve adding to their workforce and help them to compete internationally.

“This move is about allowing a Welsh manufacturing business to modernise and remain competitive. We need to do this to retain and create jobs and investment in Minera and the wider Wrexham area,” a company spokesperson said.

“If Welsh SMEs like ours are to compete with much larger international corporations we need modern factory space to create efficiencies and hopefully expand over time.”

Efficiencies

Expanding production of the eco-homes alongside its successful roof truss business will help the company to streamline its operations and increase efficiency.

“Currently we are in lots of small sheds that aren’t really suitable for what we’re doing, with the doors open and products moving from shed to shed through the manufacturing process.

“One of the advantages of it all being under one roof is we’ll be able to keep the doors shut, generating a lot less noise. The building is also insulated which will also dampen noise in a way our current sheds don’t.”

The company received permission for a change of use of the former dairy site at a meeting of Wrexham County Borough Council’s Planning Committee on 2 March 2026.

A final date for moving into the new premises has not yet been decided.
