Read the latest magazine Industry News New NHBC Foundation Report on the Future of MMC 11 January 2021 A NEW REPORT on how the role of Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) has evolved in the housebuilding industry has been released by the NHBC Foundation. Prefabricated homes have been long-heralded as the future of house building; but if the arguments for homes to be manufactured like cars are so compelling, why is factory-built housing not more common? That’s the question the ‘Modern methods of construction: building on experience’ report examines. It scrutinises notable periods of transformation in the industry and explores the elements of design, as well as the social and economic influences, that fuel change. The Future of MMC The report also looks at the history of non-traditional housing through a range of different technologies and advancements since the 19th century. It considers how builders and developers can harness technological advances to respond to the increasing demand for new homes. NHBC’s Head of Standards, Innovation and Research, Richard Smith, said: “As we navigate the COVID-19 pandemic and come out of the EU, there is an opportunity to innovate. This new report looks at the best features of homes from the past to inform the homes of the future. “We really hope that ‘Modern methods of construction: building on experience’ will ultimately be an enabler of change for the industry.” For more information and to download the report click here. >> Read more about the NHBC in the news Previous article Roofing Doyen Honoured with MBE AwardNext article Construction Contracts Totalled £5.5 Billion in December 2020 Share article You may also like View all News Industry News +2 20 March 2026 RA Issues Revised Safety Guidance on Rooflight Covers Awards and Events +3 20 March 2026 The Great British Slate Off Returns for 2026 Green Roofs +3 20 March 2026 Swansea Joins Global Network of Biophilic Cities Featured Solutions +3 19 March 2026 Flush Fitting Rooflights by Clement Sign Up to Roofing Today Stay up to date with all of the latest news from Roofing Today by signing up to our weekly Bulletins… Sign Up Today Get in Touch Check out the latest issue 123 March-April 2026 View Now Past Issues Get in Touch
