A new rooftop walk will be the UK’s highest roof open to the public.

The roof of Alexandra Palace in London will be opened in February allowing visitors to see uninterrupted, 25-mile panoramic views across the London skyline.

Wire & Sky will offer visitors the chance to climb the roof reaching 130 metres (426ft) above sea level.

Named the Summit, the 60-minute walk ends at the Angel of Plenty statue before opening out to a 360 degree view of London. From there, London’s landmarks can be seen in good weather, including the Houses of Parliament, The Shard, St Paul’s Cathedral, and the City’s skyscapers.

Ally Pally’s Roof

The building’s pitched roof is covered by lead sheets last installed in 1998.

In 2025, a new walkway was installed across an existing flat roof, with two access staircases repaired and an aerial walkway with a new platform was installed across the pitched roofs.

Set on high ground in Alexandra Park near Muswell Hill in north London, Alexandra Palace is already the highest viewpoint in London.

A History of Destruction and Rebuilding

Opened in 1873, within two weeks Alexandra Palace was burnt down. It was rebuilt and reopened by 1875, and in 1901 north London councils collaborated to buy the Palace and its Park on behalf of the people.

Dubbed ‘Ally Pally’, the Palace suffered bomb damage in the Second World War and in 1974, the Palace was again seriously damaged by fire.

Rebuilt by Haringey Council, the Palace reopened once again in 1988 and 9 years later was Grade II listed by English Heritage.
