Read the latest magazine Industry News Metal Roofs Projects Solar Metal Standing Seam Solar PV System Launches in UK 29 October 2024 A NEW SOLAR roofing solution, fully integrating PV with metal seam panels, has launched in the UK. Roofit.Solar, the Estonian developer of the integrated PV panels, has appointed Future Tech Solar Ltd as its distributor for England and Wales to drive both residential (B2C) and trade (B2B) sales. Having featured on Grand Designs in November 2023, Roofit.Solar’s Velario product has gained a number of customer requests from those who want to utilise solar but dislike the look of common non-integrated, on-roof and under-tile solutions. Debut UK Project Roofit.Solar’s debut UK project is the UK’s first Passivhaus Premium rated residential building in the UK. It is a four-bedroom Cotswolds house that generates over 40 megawatt hours of electricity in just ten months. This is about fifteen times what a typical ten-panel array produces in a year. In its first year, the owner exported 40 megawatt hours of electricity back to the grid, though he said that this was riddled with hurdles, due to grid infrastructure. The project has utilised ancillary products, including a 20kWh system of four battery modules. The cost for the roofing project was £120,000 including the whole solar installation – the batteries, inverters and roof – with its MCS-certified Roofit.Solar panels and standing seam metal roof (one third of the roof), with no solar panels. The man had received a local quote of £96,000 so he described the difference as “not that much” when batteries, inverters, etc, are added. The metal roofing was by Rukki, a Finnish manufacturer, with the solar modules integrated by Roofit.Solar in Estonia, using Rukki metal as the base for their manufacturing process.
